Sustainability Starts in the Studio
June 2, 2026
Sustainability is often talked about as a duty — something we must do for the planet. But in the studio, I have come to see it as a practice of imagination. Sustainability asks: what can this become? Instead of: what is this worth?
Every piece of material I collect has already had a life. My job is to honor that life by giving it a next chapter. A wine bottle becomes a vase. A rusted nail becomes the spine of a sculpture. Old fabric becomes the surface of a canvas. Nothing is wasted when nothing is dismissed.
This is the insight I try to share with the young people who come through our workshops: sustainability is not a sacrifice. It is a creative act. And it begins, always, in the small space where you are standing right now.
